4. Never pay full price. Most people are willing to negotiate 10 to 20% less than their asking price. If you offer someone 70% of their asking price, you’ll be surprised how often they will be willing to settle for 80%. If you are buying a $50,000 motorhome, saving 20%, is like having an extra $10,000 in the bank. Keep in mind, that it is always easier to buy than it is to sell. Pop up campers – The main benefit to pop up campers is that they are very affordable. You can often buy a new pop up camper for less than $10,000. Pop up campers are also pretty easy to tow. With most travel trailers, you can bring your home along with you. Travel trailers range in price from affordable, to extremely expensive. Most of the time, travel trailers work great for camping in any type of weather.

Fifth Wheel Trailers- A fifth wheel travel trailer is much larger than your ordinary travel trailer. A 5th wheel attaches to the bed of your truck, rather than attaching to the bumper. This allows the travel trailers to  have an extra sleeping compartment, over the truck bed. It will generally sleep 6-8 people. Fifth wheels are a great way for you to travel across the country or long distances. These types of travel trailers are one of the largest trailers, and typically also the most expensive. Sports Utility RV- A sports utility RV is usually also a fifth wheel. This trailer is designed for hauling ATVs, dirt bikes, and race cars. One of the unique features of this RV is that it often has a gas pump, and external hoses for washing your vehicles. The back of this RV opens up to make it easy to load and unload equipment. A sports utility RV is a manly RV. Typically, the interior, including the kitchen, and bedroom, are designed for durability, rather than for comfort.

A lot of times you can find brand-new models at RV trade shows. I think this is a great place to buy a new RV, especially if you get it for close to invoice. A lot of times, dealers are willing to only make a small profit on a starter RV, because they hope to be able to upsell you to a larger RV later on.  If it’s working favor, you can get an amazing deal on the first pop up camper you buy.

I like this resource a lot because  you can find a local units for sale. It seems like most people who post on Craigslist get calls on the first day but then fewer as time goes on. Not every used RV is a good deal but on average 10-20% are at or below blue book (not counting upgrades). The more motorhomes you look at, the more chance you have of finding an amazing deal. If the right deal comes around, you need to be ready. Another online source I have used successfully is Lycos and freeclassifieds.com, (although you have to cut through the clutter of dealer RVs to find a good used motorhome for sale by owner.) A lot of RVs will keep track of the hours on their generator. This determines RV usages, the same way an odometer determines usage on a car. If the generator has low hours, it means that the RV probably hasn’t been used very often. If there are high hours on the generator, then someone has lived in the RV for a long time.

There are many places you can find or advertise motorhomes, campers, fifth wheels, or used RVs for sale by owner. You need to remember that RVs is a numbers game. The more interested prospects, the more likely you are to sell it fast.
1) For the Buyer: You can find RVs listed for sale at an RV Park and Sell lot. Most States have these, they are just places where several owners will pay to park their RVs over the weekend. People who want to buy a used RV for sale by owner flock to these places because there is a large choice of inventory for sale by owner in one place. The advantages are that you can pretty much get any RV you want. If you are going to buy an RV that is new, I would recommend going to a dealership. However, if you want to save a lot of money, you will probably be a lot more interested in buying a used RV and not going to a dealership to buy one.

When you’re buying RVs for sale by owner there are essentially two different ways to buy these RVs. The first is to try to buy an RV at retail. Again, this is a fairly simple and easy way to buy an RV. Most of the RVs list for close to their private party retail values. You can negotiate a little on the price, and eventually end up buying it for close to the private party retail. However, if you do it this way you won’t save yourself a lot of money. The best way to shop for RVs for sale by owner by a private party seller, is to try to buy them at wholesale prices. In order do this, you’re going to have to find somebody who wants to sell an RV more than you want to buy it. This means it might take you 20 or 30 phone calls to find someone like this.
